Striped crochet bag

Packing for the beach is easy with our crochet-it-yourself roomy bag!

You will need:

  • 2 balls white, 4 balls each grey and blue Katia Cotton Stretch DK: use double stranded (available from Skapie.co.za)
  • 4mm crochet hook
  • sewing needle
  • 2 bag handles
  • 2 large snap fasteners

NOTE: use a st marker to keep track of your rows.
SIZE: 28cm x 45cm (excluding handles)
TENSION: 17sts and 18 rows = 10cm

ch – chain; sl st – slip stitch; dc – double crochet; rep – repeat; sk – skip

STRIPE PATTERN
14cm using blue
8cm using grey
1cm using white
4cm using blue
2cm using white
15cm using grey

Base: using blue make a magic ring and with crochet hook, ch1 and make 10dc inside ring:
[10dc]. Continue working in rounds, beg each rnd with ch1; and joining each rnd with a sl st
in beg ch1.

Body: Cont working even rounds until bag measures 45cm (end of stripe pattern).
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Finishing (making up)

Fold last 8cm at top edge of bag outward.
Sew to last row of blue strip.
Lay bag on a flat surface, leaving the seam that forms at the beg of each row at one side of bag.
Sew handles to top edge of bag, leaving 12cm between them.
Form a pleat at each edge of bag on folded 8cm; then sew one snap fastener in centre of each pleat.
