Einstein’s top 10 life lessons

The wisdom of Albert Einstein is as relevant in this day and age as it was in 1921 when he received the Nobel Prize in physics…

Einstein's top 10 life lessonsHere are Einstein’s top 10 life lessons to help you face life’s challenges and be better at coping with them.

  1. START BY CHANGING YOU
‘Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’ Your responses from the world won’t change until you do. The degree to which your actions and thinking change is the extent to which your life will change.
  2. SEE THINGS THROUGH
‘It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.’ Back yourself by finishing what you start. If you don’t win the first time round, what you learn along the way could be invaluable to your success.
  3. KNOW THE RULES INSIDE OUT
‘You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.’ Knowing the boundaries of a game is vital to success. Your kids might well have noticed that ‘A good teacher knows the rules; a good pupil, the exceptions!’ – Martin H Fischer
  4. IT’S NOW OR NEVER
‘I never think of the future – it comes soon enough.’ You can’t change yesterday or tomorrow right now,  so dedicate all of your efforts to here and now. It’s the only time that really counts!
  5. WE NEED YOU!
‘Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.’ Unearth your best talents and gifts, and learn how to use them in a way that most benefits others. If you’re irreplaceable, then you will attract success.
  6. SEE MISTAKES IN A NEW LIGHT
‘A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new.’ Teach kids that a mistake is not failure – as long as it’s used to make you better, smarter and faster. Discover the power of trying new things and making mistakes. It’s said that in order to succeed, triple the amount of mistakes you make.
  7. FOLLOW WHAT FASCINATES YOU
‘I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.’ The pursuit of your curiosity is the secret to your success. Kids and adults alike need to find what piques their curiosity to find long-term satisfaction and success.
  8. EXPERIENCE GROWS KNOWLEDGE
‘Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience.’ Sitting in a classroom or discussing a topic will only give you a philosophical understanding of it; to know it you must experience it first-hand. Get yourself and the kids out there and do new things!
  9. THE IMAGINATION IS POWERFUL
‘Imagination is everything. It’s the preview of life’s coming attractions. Imagination is more important than knowledge.’ In our hamster wheel existence, imagination is what can be lacking. Don’t let something as powerful as your imagination lie dormant, and encourage your kids to play weird and wonderful imaginary games.
  10. LIVE IN THE MOMENT
‘Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.’ As busy multi-tasking moms one of the hardest things to do is be present in the moment. Paradoxically, our kids are experts at getting engrossed in what they enjoy, so point them towards constructive activities and leave them to immerse themselves in it. Practice being present yourself, and tackle one task at a time.
