Crochet carpet

Make this plush, crochet carpet for winter. It’ll keep the whole family comfortably warm.


You will need

  • 50 balls Lollipop Chunky in Light Grey (32) and Charcoal (18) or colours of your choosing
  • size 12mm crochet hook
  • tapestry needle


ch – chain; ch sp – chain space; cont – continue; dc – double crochet; ea – each; rep – repeat; st – stitch; slst – slip stitch; tr – treble

NOTE 2ch = 1dc

Finished size: 2.6m x 2.1m

To make

Using two threads of Lollipop Light Grey and 12mm crochet hook, make 166ch. Miss 2ch and work 1dc into ea ch to end – 165dc.
Next row: *2ch, 1dc in ea dc to end. Turn Rep from * until you have worked 25 rows in Light Grey. Join Charcoal (2 threads) and work 4 rows dc. Rejoin Light Grey and work 4 rows in dc. Cont working 4 rows of ea colour in dc until you have worked 26 Charcoal stripes or until the carpet is the desired length. Then join Light Grey and work 25 rows in dc to end. Cut yarn and pull through.

1st round: using two threads of Lollipop Charcoal and 12mm crochet hook, join to straight edge of carpet into the 1st st after the corner on your final row with a slst. Working in loose threads as you go, make 2ch, *work 1dc into ea dc to last dc. To work the corner, make 2ch, then work 1dc into the side of ea dc down the side of the carpet to the next corner, make 2ch**. Rep from * to **, joining the last 2ch to the top of the starting ch using a slst.

2nd round: work 2ch, *work 1dc into ea dc. To work the corner, work (2dc,2ch,2dc) into 2ch-sp**, rep from * to **, joining the top of the starting ch using a slst.
Rep 2nd round until the border is the required size. Join Light
Grey, work 3ch and work one row of tr in ea dc working (1tr,2ch,1tr) into ea corner. Join to top of 3ch using a slst. Cut yarn and pull through. Sew in loose thread. Dampen the carpet and lie flat to dry.
