This gorgeous crochet throw is reminiscent of one granny might have made – we love the contemporary colours in our version…
You will need
- 1 x 100g ball elle Pure Gold DK – CHILLI (083) Red
- 15 x 100g balls elle Pure Gold DK – LILY (033) White
- 4 x 100g balls elle Pure Gold DK – RIVIERA (040) Blue
- 3 x 50g balls elle Family Knit DK – GRAVEL 075 Tan
- 3 x 50g balls elle Family Knit 4ply – GREY (011) Grey
- 4mm crochet hook
Size 1.9m x 1.45m
Beg – beginning; betw – between; ch – chain; dc – double crochet; foll – following; tr –treble; ea – each; patt – pattern; rep – repeat; sp – space; ss – slip st; st(s) – stitch(es); sk – skip; tog – together.
Foundation row: using a 4mm crochet hook and Pure Gold, make 5ch, join with ss to form a ring.
1st round: 3ch (counts as 1tr), 11tr into ring, join with ss into 3ch. Join yarn to change colour.
2nd round: ss in betw 1st and 2nd sts, 3ch (counts as 1 tr), 1tr into same sp, work 2tr betw next and every foll st to end, working last 2sts in betw last st and 3ch, join with ss into 3ch. Join yarn to change colour.
3rd round: ss in betw 1st and 2nd sts, *3ch (counts at 1tr), 2tr into same sp, work 3tr in betw next and every foll sp to end, working last 3sts in betw last st and 3ch, join with ss into 3ch. Join yarn to change colour
4th round: ss into next 2 sts and in betw next 2 sts, 3ch (counts as 1tr), 2tr, 3ch, 3tr into same sp (1st corner worked), *(sk 3tr, 3tr in betw next 3tr) twice **, sk 3tr, work (3tr,3ch,3tr) in betw next 2 sts, rep from * ending last rep at **, join with ss into 3ch. Finish off.
Make 252 small varied squares – making 63 large squares. This blanket has used 63 red centre squares.
To make up
Sew together 4 squares including 1 red centre square – this makes 1 large square (63 squares in total) (7 x 9 large squares). Join large squares together by holding right side together and ss tog to form ridge. (Sew in strips).
Border for 4-block square.
Using Lily, join to first corner with a ss and make 1ch. Work 3 rows dc, working (1dc, 3ch, 1dc) into each corner and finishing each round by joining to starting ch with a ss. When you have completed 3 rows, cut yarn and pull through.
Using Lily, work 6 rows dc.
Using Riviera, work 1 row dc.
Using Lily, work 1 row dc.
Using Riviera, Work Shell Edge (1 row).
To make shell edge, sk 2 sts, work 5tr into the same st, sk 2 tr, 1dc into the next st, sk 2 tr, rep, (work 3tr, 3ch, then 3tr into the corners).
Sew in all ends securely.
