Gather your yarn and make this matching doily, coaster and napkin ring.

Doily, coaster and napkin ring

This Christmas, make a matching doily, coaster and napkin ring set for each placesetting.

You will need

  • Elle Premier Natural Cotton 4 ply (50g balls) in black (017)
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors

Abbreviations for the doily, coaster and napkin ring

Ch – chain; ea – each; rem – remains; rep – repeat; RS – right side; ss – slip stitch; st(s) – stitch(es);tr – treble; beg – beginning; dc – double crochet

Note
In the second round you are asked to make a tr into the centre of the previous trtr. If you look closely at the trtr you will notice that there are three vertical loops along the post of the st. Work the tr into the central lp and complete the tr as normal.

To make the doily

Make a magic ring
1st round: 1ch, *dc in ring, 3ch, 2dtr-cl in ring, 3ch; rep from * 4 times, slst to 1st dc, do not turn – 5 dtr-cl.
2nd round: 6ch (counts as trtr and 1ch-sp), *[tr,4ch,tr] in dtr-cl, 1ch, trtr in next dc, 4ch, tr in center of prev trtr, 1ch; rep from * 4 times, [tr,4ch,tr] in dtr-cl, 1ch in 3rd ch of 6ch, 1ch, tr in 5th ch of 6ch, do not turn – 20 ch-sp.
3rd round: 1ch, dc around tr, *(3ch,3dtr-cl in 1ch-sp), 3ch, dc in 4ch-sp; rep from * around, 3ch, slst to 1st dc, do not turn – 103 dtr-cl.
4th round: 6ch (counts as trtr and 1ch-sp), *[tr,4ch,tr] in dtr-cl, 1ch, trtr in next dc, 4ch, tr in center of prev trtr, 1ch; rep from * around, [tr,4ch,tr] in dtr-cl, 1ch in 3rd ch of 6ch, 1ch, tr in 5th of 6ch, do not turn – 40 ch-sp.
5th round: 4ch (counts as tr and 1ch), tr around tr from prev round, *1ch, [dtr,1ch,dtr,1ch,dtr] in next 4ch-sp, 1ch, [tr,1ch,tr,1ch,tr] in next 4ch-sp; rep from * around
6th round: 1ch, 2 htr in each 1ch-sp around, close with fake st.
Cut the yarn and sew in the loose threads.

To make the coaster

Make a magic ring
1st round: 1ch, *dc in ring, 3ch, 2 tr-cl in ring, 3ch; rep from * 4 times, slst to 1st dc, do not turn – 5 dtr-cl.
2nd round: 6ch (counts as dtr and 2ch-sp), *[htr,3ch,htr] in tr-cl, 1ch, dtr in next dc, 3ch, htr in center of prev dtr, 1ch; rep from * 4 times, [htr,3ch,htr] in tr-cl, 1ch in 3rd of 6ch, 1ch, htr in 5th ch of 6ch, do not turn – 20 ch-sp.
3rd round: 4ch (counts as tr and 1ch), tr around tr from prev round, *2ch, [dtr,1ch,dtr,1ch,dtr] in next 3ch-sp, 2ch, [tr,1ch,tr,1ch,tr] in next 3ch-sp; rep from * around
4th round: 1ch, 2 htr in each 1ch-sp, 1 htr in each 2ch-sp around, close with fake st.
Cut the yarn and sew in the loose threads.

To make the napkin ring

Make 28 fhtr, join with slst to form a ring. Make sure the sts are not twisted.
1st round: 1ch, *dc, 3ch, sk1 fhtr, 2dtr-cl in next fhtr, 3ch, sk1 fhtr; rep from * around, join to first dc with slst.
2nd round: 5ch (counts as trtr), *[tr,2ch,tr] in 2dtr-cl, trtr in next dc, tr in center of prev trtr; rep from * around, tr in 3rd of 5ch, 1ch, dc in in 5th of 5ch.
3rd round: 1ch, dc around dc from prev round, *[3ch,3dtr-cl,3ch] in 2ch-sp; rep from * around, tr into dc to close round.
4th round: 1ch, 2htr in every 3ch-sp around, slst closed.

Note It’s important to block all items. To block the napkin ring, use the cardboard roll from a roll of paper towel or toilet paper. Wet the napkin ring, pat dry and place it over the roll. Insert the pins for blocking into the cardboard thus shaping the ring.
