A cute heart motif to use in a blanket or accessory.


ch – chain; ch sp – chain space; dc – double crochet; dtr – double treble crochet; htr – half treble crochet;
rep – repeat; sl st – slip stitch; tr – treble crochet; ttr – triple treble crochet

Finished size: 9cm x 9cm

You’ll need

  • DK wool in two colours
  • 4mm crochet hook

To make


Using pink yarn, make a slip knot and ch4. Join to ch1 with a sl st.

Round 1: Ch 4 (counts as 1dtr) and work 15dtr into the ring. (You can also start with a magic circle, 4ch and 15dtr.) Join to first 4ch with a sl st. [16sts]
Round2: Ch1, in same sp [dc, htr, tr, dtr], 4dtr in next st, 3dtr in next st, 2tr in next st, [htr, dc] in next st, [dc, htr] in next st, 2tr in next st. In the tip of the heart, dtr in centre st. Rep sts in reverse for other side of heart: 2tr, [htr, dc] in next st, [dc, htr] in next st, 2tr in next st, 3dtr in next st, 4dtr in next st, [dtr, tr, htr, dc]. Sl st into starting ch to close. [41sts]
Round 3: Join white yarn and ch1 to secure. Dc all around in the back loops only and sl st to starting ch to close round. Bind off. [41sts]
Round 4: Join new yarn colour of choice at the point of the heart and ch2 to secure. Work your way around to the centre of the heart, in each successive st and only in the back loops: htr, tr, 2dtr, 2ttr, 1tr, 1htr, dc, dc, dc, dc, htr, 2tr, 2dtr, 1tr, 2tr, 1tr, dtr, dtr. From centre, work back down: dtr, tr 2tr, 1tr, 2dtr, 2tr, htr, dc, dc, dc, dc, htr, tr, 2dtr, 2ttr, tr, htr, dc, sl st to close.

Bind off and work in all loose threads.


  • Make multiple squares and join together in a fabric for a bag or cushion cover.
  • Sew two squares back to back and stuff for a folksy wedding ring cushion.
