This is an easy pattern for beginners using straight needles instead of circular or double-pointed ones.
- 4mm straight needles
- 50g Raeesah 100% cotton DK
- 1 small crochet hook
- yarn needle
c/off – cast off; c/on – cast on; k – knit; p – purl; rem – remaining; st st – stocking stitch;
tog – together
Size: To fit teen (for larger sizes, add rows where indicated)
Using 4mm needles and st st: 19sts and 27 rows = 10cm x 10cm
Knitting a tension square is advisable (see gauge).
C/on 84sts loosely.
K8 rows in rib stitch (K2, P2).
Work 30 rows in st st (K 1 row, P 1 row), ending with a purl row.
For adult sizes, knit an additional 4 rows in st st, ending with a purl row.
(k10, k2tog) * 7 times to end. [77 sts]. Purl next row.
(k9, k2tog)* [70 sts]. Purl next row.
(k8, k2tog)* [63 sts]. Purl next row.
(k7, k2tog)* [56 sts]. Purl next row.
(k6, k2tog)* [49 sts]. Purl next row.
(k5, k2tog)* [42 sts]. Purl next row.
(k4, k2tog)* [35 sts]. Purl next row.
(k3, k2tog)* [28 sts]. Purl next row.
(k2, k2tog)* [21 sts]. Purl next row.
(k1, k2tog)* [14 sts]. Purl next row.
(k2tog)* [7 sts].
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and pull through remaining sts using a crochet hook, securing in first loop.
Use the remaining tail to sew the sides together. Weave in loose ends.
Tip: If needed, vary needle size in order to achieve gauge.
