Keep warm on in-between days with our lacy knitted shrug by Elaine Van Wyk of I Love Yarn.
You will need
- 5 x 100g balls of Rowan Cocoon in colour Mink
- 7mm circular knitting needles
c/on(off) – cast on(off), cont – continue, dec – decrease, foll(s) – follow(s)ing, inc – increase, k – knit, k2tog – knit two together, N(s) – needle(s), p – purl, rep – repeat, rw – ribwise, ssk – slip, slip knit, st(s) – stitch(es), yf – yarn forward
C/on 91 sts (if you inc or dec the amount of sts, you must have an odd number of sts). Do not join in the round.
KNIT THE RIBBING AS FOLLS:
Start with k3 and work 2 x 2 ribbing.
Next row: 2 x 2 ribbing and purl the last 3 sts to keep the ribbing. Cont until ribbing measures 6cm.
NOW START WITH THE LACE PATTERN:
1st row: k1, *yf, k2tog, rep from * to end.
2nd row: p.
3rd row: *ssk, yf, rep from * to last st, k1.
4th row: p.
Rep 1st-4th row until the work measures 65cm in total.
Rep the ribbing.
K3 and work 2 x 2 ribbing. Next row: 2 x 2 ribbing and purl the last 3 sts to keep the ribbing. Rep these 2 rows until your ribbing measures 6cm. C/off rw.
KNIT 2 SLEEVES
C/on 36 sts. Work 2 x 2 ribbing until each sleeve measures 18cm. (You can make this longer than 18cm if you prefer). C/off rw.
NOW ASSEMBLE THE SHRUG
Fold the shrug in half with the 2 ribbings on top of each other. Fold the sleeves in half – lengthwise. Sew the sleeves to the lace side of the shrug and sew the shrug’s sides together. Rep this on both sides. Sew in all loose threads.
NOTE: Sew the sides and sleeves on in the tension of the shrug, so that the sewing does not pull the sleeves tight and has a bit of stretch.
