You’ll need

  • 6(6,6,7,7) hanks African Expressions Enchanted 100g colour Ecru
  • 4mm knitting needles
  • 3.25mm circular knitting needle
  • 2 stitch holders
  • Cable needle

1st Row: *(K1,p1,k1) all in one st. P3tog. Rep from * to end.

C4F (sl next 2sts on CN and leave at front, p2 then k sts from CN) C4B (sl next 2sts on CN and leave at back, k2 then p 2sts from CN).
2nd, 4th & 6th Rows: K2, p4, k2.
3rd & 5th Rows: P2, k4, p2.
7th Row: C4B (sl next 2sts on CN leave at back, k2 then psts from CN, C4F, sl 2sts on CN leave at front, p2
then k sts from CN.
8th, 10th & 12th Rows: P2, k4, p2.

These 12 rows set the patt.


With 4mm ns cast on 120(128,140,150)sts and work 4 rows in st st, 6 rows rev st st and 6 rows st st.
Starting with a k row cont in st st until work measures 15cm from cast on edge, end with a p row.
Dec st at each end of next and every 8th row 9 times 102(110,122,132)sts.
Work straight until back measures 48(48,46,46)cm from cast on edge end with a p row.

Shape armholes

Cast off 7(8,9,10)sts at the beg of next 2 rows 88(94,104,112)sts.
Dec st at each end of next and every alt row until 76(78,86,92)sts.
Work straight until armhole measures 20(20,22,23)cm end with a p row.

Shape shoulders

Cast off 10(10,11,12)sts at the beg of next 2 rows, then 10(10,12,13)sts at the beg of next 2 rows.
Leave rem 36(38,40,42)sts on a stitch holder.

Front: pocket lining (2)

With 4mm ns cast on 34(38,44,49)sts and work 30 rows in st st end with a k row. Leave sts on a stitch holder.
With 4mm ns cast on 120(128,140,150)sts.
1st Row: (RS), k34(38,44,49) sts, p1, k8, p1, PM, p32, PM, p1, k8, p1, k34(38,44,49)sts.
2nd Row: P34(38,44,49)sts, k1, p8, k1, SLPM, work 1st row of trinity patt across 32sts, SLPM, k1, p8, k1, p to end.
3rd Row: Rep 1st row.
4th Row: Rep 2nd row, but work 3rd row of trinity patt across 32sts.
5th Row: P34(38,44,49)sts, p1, 8sts as 1st row of chain cable, p1, 32sts trinity patt, p1, 8sts chain cable p1, p to end.
6th Row: K34(38,44,49)sts, k3, p4, k3, 32sts trinity, k3, p4, k3, k to end.

14th & 16th Row: Rep 12th Row.
15th Row: Rep 13th Row.
Rep from 5th-16th row twice then from 5th-10th row once.

Place pocket lining

With RSF cast off 34(38,44,49)sts, work centre panel, cast off last 34(38,44,49)sts. Break off yarn.
Next row: (WS), p across sts from pocket lining, work across sts from centre panel and p across 2nd pocket lining.
The pocket linings are part of garment front. Keeping cont of patt as set work until front measures 15cm from cast on
edge end p row.
Dec st at each end of next and every 8th row until 102(110,122,132)sts.
Work straight until front matches back to armhole end with p row.
Shape armhole as given for back 76(78,86,92)sts and cont straight until front measures 7(7,8,8)cm less than back to
shoulder line end p row.

Shape neck

Patt 22(23,27,30)sts turn and leave rem sts on a stitch holder, turn. Dec st at neck edge in every row until
20(20,23,25)sts rem.
Work straight until front matches back to shoulder line end p row.

Shape shoulders

Cast off 10(11,12,13)sts k to end p 1 row then cast off rem sts.
With RSF join yarn to rem sts, cast off 32sts and complete to match first side.


With 4mm ns cast on 56(58,60,60)sts and work 2 rows in st st, 4 rows rev st st, 4 rows st st and 4 rows rev st
Starting with a k row, cont in st st inc st at each end of 8th(8th,6th,6th)row, then in every foll 10th(10th,8th,8th)
row until 72(74,80,82)sts.
Cont straight until sleeve measures 43(44,45,45)cm from cast on edge, end with a p row.

Shape top

Cast off 3(4,4,5)sts at the beg of next 2 rows.
Dec st at each end of next and every alt row until 44(40,44,38)sts.
Dec st at each end of next and every row until 12(12,12,14)sts rem.
Cast off.

To make up and collar

Join shoulder seams.
With RSF and using CN, starting at the left shoulder seam, pick up and k50(52,56,58)sts across front neck edge and
40(40,42,42)sts across back neck 90(92,98,100)sts.
*K 4 rnds, p 4 rnds* rep from * to * once.
Sew inside pocket lining.
Set in sleeve. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Block garment to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
