Toy rabbit

We adore this cute toy rabbit knitted from yarn scraps.

Toy RabbitThis toy rabbit is a joy to make. His finished size is 28cm, so he won’t take too long to knit!

You will need

  • Katia Cotton 100% or Mississippi : 1 ball each of khaki col 27, turquoise col 22, pistachio col 20 and ecru col 3
  • 100% black cotton embroidery thread
  • stuffing
  • 5mm knitting needles

ABBREVIATIONS FOR THE TOY RABBIT

k: knit; k2tog: knit 2 together; p: purl; psso: pass slip stitch over; st: stitch

TENSION

3.5mm needles; stocking st; 4cm x 4cm = 22 sts & 28 rows

To make the toy rabbit

RIGHT FOOT WITH TURQUOISE

Cast on 18 sts.

Row 1-2:  stocking st
Row 3: cast on 1 st, k to end (19 sts)
Row 4: cast on 1 st, p to end (20 sts)
Row 5-6: continue with stocking st (20 sts)
Row 7: cast off 1 st, k to end (19 sts)
Row 8: cast off 1 st, p to end (18 sts)
Row 9: cast off 7 sts, p to end (11 sts)
Row 10: cast off 7 sts, k to end (4 sts)
Row 11-14: continue with stocking st

Cast off. (Cut yarn leaving 10cm piece)

KNIT LEFT FOOT WITH ECRU

Left upper leg:  with khaki cast on 4 sts

Row 1-4: stocking st
Row 5: cast on 2 sts, k to end (6 sts)
Row 6: cast on 2 sts, p to end (8 sts)
Row 7: increase in first st, k to end (9 sts)
Turn and cast on 3 sts (12 sts)

Do not cut yarn, you will continue with this thread for the rest of the body. Move stitches to back of needle.

Right upper leg: Repeat rows 1-6 with new thread in khaki
Continue with thread from left upper leg and K row 7 of right upper leg and increase in second last stitch. (21 sts)

Cast off. Leave 20 cm length of yarn for sewing up.
Knit Right Arm with turquoise.

 TO MAKE UP

Sew and stuff the body and head, right and left ears.

Fold the arms in half lengthways and sew and stuff. Place the arms between markers on body and sew in place.
Fold each foot in half, sew and stuff, and sew in place to upper legs.

Embroider the face, feet, front of right ear and body as shown.
