Beat post-workout breakouts

The good news is you’re feeling fabulous after a hard gym session. The bad news? Your skin’s covered in spots from all the sweat and grime. Here’s four solutions to beat the breakouts.

1. Clean your skin. Before you work out, remove all make-up, sunscreen or moisturiser. The combination of skin products and sweat, plus dead skin cells and bacteria all contribute to breakouts. If you must, cover spots with a concealer that contains antibacterial tea tree oil or salicylic acid.

2. Wear cool clothing. If you’re prone to acne flare-ups on your chest and back, try wearing lighter, looser clothes that won’t hug your body. Some gym tops are designed to pull sweat away from your body, while others absorb it. Both types work well for keeping skin sweat free.

3. Towel tricks. There’s nothing wrong with a little mid-workout glow, but if you prefer keeping your skin sweat free, use a towel to gently pat your skin dry, as excessive rubbing or wiping can irritate spots and cause further inflammation. Even better- keep facial cleansing wipes in your gym bag for when you’re done.

4. Drink loads of water. Your body gets rid of toxins through sweating, so help it along by drinking more water while you exercise. Not only will this prevent dehydration, it’ll also promote better blood circulation and flush out all the toxins that have been contributing to skin breakouts.
