Make your own beauty products

When you’ve stocked up on face and hair masks, moisturisers and body lotions, it’s easy to see how quickly you can get out of pocket.

Natural beauty productsHere are a few ways to make your own beauty products – in your own kitchen!


You will need
• 15m honey
• 1 egg yolk
• oats

To make
1. Mix honey and egg yolk in a small bowl. Slowly add enough oats to make a thick consistency.
2. Smooth the mask and rub in gently over the face and neck.
3. Rinse with lukewarm water.


You will need
• 30ml coconut oil
• 60ml beeswax
• 30ml Shea butter
• 5ml coconut or vanilla extract
• 60ml rose petals (optional)
• 5ml sweet almond oil

To make
1. In a saucepan on low heat, melt all the ingredients.
2. Strain, or leave the petals in if you prefer.
3. Pour the mixture into small containers and allow to cool.


You will need
• Herbs, like rosemary or thyme
• 45ml olive oil
• 4 ripe avocados
• juice of 2 lemons
• 45ml honey
• wheat flour or finely ground oats

To make
1. Combine the herbs and oil and soak overnight. Strain the mixture and keep the herbs aside.
2. Peel the avocados and mash the flesh in a strainer. Add the oil mixture, lemon juice and honey. Slowly add the flour to make a paste.
3. Section dry hair and apply the mixture from root to tip. Wrap in a towel for 15 minutes, rinse, shampoo, and condition. For optimal results use a plastic wrap instead of a towel.


You need
• 5ml baking soda
• Few drops hydrogen peroxide

To make
Mix the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form a toothpaste consistency. Use as you would your regular toothpaste.


You need
• 250ml solid Shea butter
• 125ml solid coconut oil
• 125ml liquid almond oil

To make
1. Melt the Shea butter and coconut oil and allow to cool for 30 minutes.
2. Slowly stir in the almond oil. Freeze until the mixture is solid and then whip into a butter-like consistency. Pour into a jar and store in a cool dry place.
