These little beef koftas are perfect for a snack platter in front of the TV.

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE KOFTAS

  • 5ml fennel seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 3cm ginger, chopped
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 1 red chilli, chopped
  • 60ml desiccated coconut
  • 450g beef mince

FOR THE SAUCE

  • 30ml olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 5cm ginger, finely grated
  • 5ml garam masala
  • 5ml turmeric
  • 400g tin whole peeled tomatoes
  • 125ml double-thick yoghurt
  • handful coriander

METHOD

  1. For the koftas, combine all the ingredients. Season. Roll into small bite-sized koftas.
  2. Heat the oil on medium and fry the koftas for 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. For the sauce, sauté the onion, garlic and ginger. Add the garam masala and turmeric and fry for another 2 minutes or until fragrant. Add the tomatoes and koftas.
  4. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the koftas are cooked through.
  5. Serve with yoghurt and coriander.
