How to: make gluten-free flours

Prepare these gluten-free flours to replace cake flour or self-raising flour in your favourite recipes!

Basic gluten-free cake flour

Makes: 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 500ml rice flour
  • 500ml ground almonds

METHOD

  1. Combine all the ingredients and store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Basic gluten-free cake flour (without nuts)

Makes 4½ cups

INGREDIENTS

  • 750ml rice flour
  • 250ml potato starch
  • 125ml tapioca flour

METHOD

  1. Combine all the ingredients and store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

MAKE THESE GLUTEN-FREE PANCAKES 

Basic gluten-free self-raising flour

Makes about 250ml

INGREDIENTS

  • 250ml basic gluten-free flour (with or without nuts)
  • 7.5ml gluten-free baking powder

METHOD

  1. Combine all the ingredients and store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Gluten-free baking powder

Makes 60ml

INGREDIENTS

  • 30ml cream of tartar
  • 15ml bicarbonate of soda
  • 15ml cornstarch

METHOD

  1. Sift all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
