Make a three-dimensional gingerbread house with these simple instructions.
1) If making a 3D house, cut the template out of acetate or use the plastic lid of an old ice cream container. Cut 2 squares of 3 x 3cm for the walls, 2 rectangles of 4 x 3cm for the roof and 2 squares (3 x 3.5cm) with triangles (2.5cm long) on top for the front and back of the house. Cut a front door of 5mm wide and 2cm in length in the front of the house.
2) For the royal icing, beat the egg white, icing sugar and lemon juice together until soft peaks form. Place the icing into a piping bag fitted with a small nozzle. Pipe along both sides of the wall panels and attach the front and back of the house to them. Leave to set on a flat surface lined with baking paper, using straight-sided glasses to support the walls. Pipe around the top edges of the walls of the house and attach the roof panels. Pipe along the top of the roof to secure. Leave to set for 2 hours.
